Custom knife creator Fred Carter adds his personal touch to the latest in the lineup of Colt rescue knives: the Colt Fire Fighter. It’s a folding knife equipped with several safety and rescue features that any fireman would want to have by his or her side while in the line of duty.
First, the knife basics: This Fire Fighter folder measures 4.625 inches when closed, and houses a partially serrated high-carbon stainless steel blade which measures 3.375 inches. The anodized black-and-red handle is made from lightweight 6061 aluminum. Its edges are machine beveled for precision.
Now it’s time to highlight the extra features that make this Fire Fighter unique:
One that you won’t find too often is the patent-pending Tailwind assisted opening mechanism. It’s simple, strong, and lightweight. The over-center cam/spring design holds the knife securely closed, and when either of the dual thumb studs are rotated outward 30 degrees, the mechanism triggers instantly. One secret we found behind this technology is the Teflon-coated blade pivot. It just makes the process a lot smoother.
Other standard safety features can be found on the knife as well, such as a seat belt cutter and a tempered glass breaker on the handle. Also, that handle is contoured and layered with black grips, making it easier to use when wearing gloves.
The Fire Fighter folding knife is definitely a great choice for any employee in the service field. We don’t expect anything less from Colt Knives.
