Winner of the IWA International Knife Award in the Multi-Tool category at the 2008 International Trade Fair for Hunting and Sporting Arms, held this past March in Germany, the Zilla Jr. has forever changed the future of multi-tools. Columbia River Knife and Tool is serious about innovative function and style. Even if this multi-tool isn’t for you, keep an eye out for what they come up with next.
For now, they’ve come up with the Zilla Jr. – pliers, wire cutter/stripper, 2.25-inch knife, flat and Phillips screwdrivers, a bottle opener, in an ergonomic bead-blast stainless steel handle. The pliers are spring loaded with both fine flat and circular toothed gripping surfaces, and a needle nose taper. They slide out from the butt of the handle for use and lock back in for storage. The knife blade is high-carbon stainless steel, with an ambidextrous, one-handed opening mechanism. When the blade is closed, a small, specially-fitted hex bit allows the screwdrivers to fit in place. An adapter is available for regular hex bits. The Zilla Jr. comes with a black nylon sheath and the option of a removable stainless steel clip.
This is a stoic multi-tool – high-function in a comfortable yet mechanical design. Not many tools, but those you get are going to work well every time. The price tag isn’t bad, either.
