Even though the high carbon stainless steel blade of this 11″ traditionally styled Bowie knife is only 6″ long, some who buy it think it’s too much knife for ordinary campers or hunters. That sounds like a good knife to me. I’ve never been embarrassed to carry a knife that could handle work I didn’t expect to do.
The styling of blade and handle give this knife a look and feel of obvious strength that goes beyond its size. The knife’s weight is only 8 ounces, yet it retains the old “short sword” look and balance of the original frontiersman’s Bowie. Full tang construction means a single slab of high carbon stainless extends from point to butt, filling out the width of the handle as well as the blade. Hand matched slabs of stag antler comprise the hand grip, and the only other piece besides the brass rivets is a stout nickel silver finger guard.
Over a hundred fifty hand operations go into the making of this knife at Puma’s factory in Solingen, Germany, resulting in individual knives with enough distinction to be unique. Quality extends to the leather sheath, detailed in ways that would fit in well at a modern Rendezvous.
This is a classic knife made to old standards. The manufacturer keeps it simple without skimping on materials or on style.
