A few quick things about Victorinox, Swiss Army knives, and the Soldier pocket knife:
- Every Victorinox comes with a manufacturer warranty against defects of workmanship or material for the lifetime of the pocket knife.
- Ex-Secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, exclusively recommends the Swiss Army pocket knife for use in an emergency kit.
- The Victorinox Soldier is the Official Standard issue pocket knife of the Swiss Army.
Not a bad list of endorsements. The Soldier is a really stylish and simple pocket knife. All the tools are made of high-quality stainless steel, with brass rivets and brass bushings to hold the layers together, and rust-free aluminum alloy separators. The tools include: one large blade (just short of 31/2”), reamer, can opener with small screwdriver, and cap lifter with large screwdriver/wire stripper. Not many tools, but the basic essentials. The handle is knurled silver alox, which means it is composed of aluminum oxide that is silver in color. Alox is a good, solid material used for its hardness and strength, and the Solider is better for being encased in it.
I really like the design of the Soldier. I think it is a great size, light weight, and looks good in any surroundings. To me, this is sort of a gentleman’s all around multi-tool, one that would be helpful to have in the pocket of a camo field jacket, or a tuxedo jacket.
