If you’re considering the purchase of a turning slicer, then you likely fall into one or more of the following categories: Professional Cook, Raw Food Devotee, or Kitchen Gadget Junkie. Regardless of which category you fall into, if you want or need a turning slicer, this is an excellent choice and will hold up to use in the most demanding environments.
If you don’t already know what a spiral slicer does, it’s the best tool for rapidly, consistently turning out (pardon the pun) ribbons, strings, and curls of vegetables. Most often these will be used in salads, or as garnishes, but you’ll sometimes see these types of cut vegetables turn up in main dishes and sides, particularly in raw food and vegan cooking. The interchangeable blades allow creation of different sizes of strands.
Unquestionably, this is a specialty tool and most often will turn up in professional settings where presentation is of greater concern than in a home setting; but regardless of the setting, the only limit on the ways in which this tool can be employed is your imagination. I’ll also share that this is a remarkably fun tool to use, although one which should be approached with the same level of care and respect with which you would approach any cutting tool or knife.
