From the Manga series Bleach comes a rare, eye-catching sword known as Senbonzakura. It is wielded by the character Byakuya Kuchiki, and is literally translated “a thousand cherry blossoms.” Interestingly, the sword’s design wasn’t meant to capture the warmth and beauty of a forest full of white cherry blossoms. It embodies the same cold, uncaring nature as its owner. But it’s still a nice conversation piece.
This sword would be great as a decorative piece of as part of a role-play scenario because it isn’t battle-ready. The 26-inch blade is made of 440 carbon steel and clearly advertises a faux edge.
One of the most interesting and decorative features of this sword is the square tsuba, traditionally known as a kaku gata. However, a genuine kaku gata is a rounded square shape. The Senbonzakura blade, as you can see, isn’t rounded in the least! This is just another way to interpret Byakuya’s dark, unfeeling character.
The handle is wrapped with a nylon cord in icy blue, which also makes its way onto the wooden scabbard as well.
And the overall verdict? We think this sword is a very fairly priced decorative piece, and would be a great addition to your fantasy collection as long as you’re not looking for the best quality hardware.
