The SlimGrip from Black and Decker will either be the best electric knife you’ve ever owned, or a complete waste of money. It all depends on what you’re going to use it for.
Say, for instance, if you want a smaller, contoured grip to hold, and will be using an electric knife to cut lighter food objects such as fish and bread, then the SlimGrip will be a good purchase. The saw-tooth serrations work great for bread products. Plus, it features a trigger safety lock, so you don’t accidentally slice off more than just your next piece of toast.
On the other hand, if you need a heavy-duty electric knife to use on tough meats and bone, it might not be the best choice for you. The SlimGrip’s blade will wobble too much to keep a steady cut going because it’s thin. Also, some customers have complained that small chunks of meat make their way into the crevasse between the blade and the handle, making it very difficult and annoying to clean. Although, it’s dishwasher safe, so the rest of it shouldn’t be hard to clean at all.
If you’re in the first camp, and you check the retail price, you’ll probably agree it’s quite a bargain. Looking for something more sturdy? Check out the Cuisinart electric knife instead.
