At first glance, this one looks pretty straightforward. It measures a hair under five inches when closed, features a 3.625 inch stainless steel blade, and carries the Kershaw name we’ve come to admire.
But look closer… There’re some interesting features here. First off, the blade is made of Sandvik 13C26 steel. This is a higher-end steel than you’ll normally find on blades in this price range. 13C26 is optimized for edge retention and sharpness.
Next, check out the curvature of the blade. That’s Ken Onion’s “bump” at work — it allows the blade to retain its strength and sharpness while it also allows weight to be shed. This knife weighs in at five ounces.
Next up is the handle. It’s Akulon with Santoprene. That’s an exotic plastic, rubber and polypropylene blend that should withstand the harshest conditions and use.
Finally, this knife features Speed Safe, Kershaw’s patented assisted-opening system that users rave about.
Not bad for a pretty “plain” looking knife.
