I have to admit — I always thought these rotating chopper thingies were gimmicky. I mean, what’s so hard about chopping some garlic with a decent Chef’s knife?
Then I got my hands on one and saw the light. First a caveat or two — it’s not perfect. Anything with a flaky skin — like a scallion or some types of onions — is not going to work great in this thing. And the blades, while sharp, are not going to rival your knives.
That aside, this thing is pretty cool. Throw some herbs or garlic in there, and it’ll make quick work of them.
You can put the food inside the enclosed cup and chop right on that, or remove the base and cut on any flat cutting board.
If you’re using the cup, it will keep your food contained without making a mess. If you’re chopping garlic, you’ll appreciate that you don’t have to get your hands all smelly.
If you prefer a smaller version, OXO also makes a mini chopper.
