At just over 41″ total length and with a weight of less than 7 pounds, this stainless steel replica seems at first glance a bit light for the over-muscled Conan. Whether the sword is true to form is difficult to say. Some believe Conan favored a heavy two handed weapon, while others depict him with a copper bound sword (like this one) and iron shield. He most certainly was capable with all manner of weapons and was not too fond of fancy decorations. This particular sword falls below the fancy level with its somewhat tarnished appearance, matching to a degree the gloominess of the ancient follower of Crom.
Information on the origin of this specific weapon as well as details of its construction is hard to come by. It may be interesting as a collector’s piece for a die-hard Conan fan, since it isn’t a high volume product.
Conan might find the rather short copper bound handle with cast metal twin boar’s head butt and raven winged grip a little too short for two handed use. Copper binding can be seen in some artists’ depictions of the warrior at work, even though some of the cast metal decorations are not. The sword is intended for display, something to hang on the wall rather than use, so the practical side isn’t so important as whether it matches the look.
Although it’s not beautiful, if you compare this blade to some of the swords shown in the art of Conan, it’s not far out of line. The stainless steel blade could use a polish, and the grind is crude. Conan didn’t care much about pretty little details.
